In this episode of the ODs on Facebook Podcast we discuss how ODs can elevate their management of Dry Eye Disease (DED) by incorporating a comprehensive dry eye strategy. Specifically, we will be focusing on the latest evidence-based best practices and practice management strategies that can enhance the success of your practice as you provide dry eye services.
This episode was created in collaboration with the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS). TFOS is perhaps best known for its landmark Dry Eye Workshops which bring together the top clinicians and researchers who specialize in DED from around the world. These workshops are held every ten years and provide a report containing consensus opinion of the most up-to-date scientific understanding of the pathophysiology of DED as well as providing a set of evidence-based best practices to help clinicians become more effective at diagnosing and treating the condition. We will be discussing the contents of the latest of these reports, the DEWS II, on this episode.
Joining us on this episode is none other than Dr. Scott Schachter, a TFOS global ambassador and a well-known thought leader in the field of ocular surface disease. Dr. Schachter received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry and opened a private practice in Pismo Beach, CA with an emphasis on ocular surface disease. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Marshall B. Ketchum University and has presented scientific posters and published articles in peer-review scientific journals such as Optometry and Vision Science, ARVO, AAO, and AOA.
He is the founder of Ocular Surface Academy, an organization that provides a unique educational experience for doctors that combines wine tourism with cutting edge education on dry eye management. Dr. Schachter is also the founder of the Facebook group OSDocs which is a forum where doctors with an interest in dry eye disease share information with colleagues about the latest advances in the field.
