Events concerning Russia are in the news almost daily…..and not complimentary for the most part.

While I do not consider myself geopolitically savvy, I did have the opportunity to visit Mother Russia twice in 2017. One time for pleasure and the other as an invited speaker at a large conference. During my visits, I learned a bit about the state of eye care in Russia.

Many OD’s who graduated in the 70’s and 80’s will recall the famous ophthalmologist Sergey Fyodorov who popularized radial keratotomy. He influenced a generation of ophthalmologists around the world and created a large cohort of patients requiring specialty contact lenses today. Thank you, Dr. Fyordorov!

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. During this training, he participated in vision outreach programs in Mexico, Guatemala, and with the Bureau of the Indian Health Service. His externship was completed at the Indian Health Service Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dr. Arnold spent two years as a research assistant for the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He opened his Today's Vision practice in Sugar Land in 1992. Currently, Dr. Arnold is the VP of the Board of Today's Vision Licensing Corporation. His primary professional interests are diseases of the eye, specialty contact lenses and the management of refractive laser eye surgery. Dr. Arnold is passionate about scleral contact lenses and their ability to help patients struggling with compromised vision related to the cornea. He is also a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society.
