Sclerals are the next big thing in optometry

Sclerals have become the next big thing in optometry clearly because of the power they have to change patients lives.

We have had numerous patients come to our specialty lens clinic with a caregiver or family member due to the fact that they did not have the legal requirement for driving in glasses and they were unable to comfortably wear small diameter rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP).

Fortunately, when we completed the scleral lens fitting, the patient’s vision was quite often 20/20 or at least good enough to resume driving legally.

He is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) through the American College of Nutrition, worked as a personal trainer, and held certifications with the American Council on Exercise and sports nutrition counseling. He frequently lectures to other eye doctors on scleral lenses and ocular nutrition and is the founder of the facebook group, "Scleral Lens Fitters" and in conjunction with Tom Arnold, OD, FSLS organized the International Congress of Scleral Contacts (ICSC), the first conference dedicated solely to scleral lenses.
